Instructions: This free address validation tool uses Google geocoding engine and will work for many countries (see list).
Your store's conversion rate will not be affected because the validation happens after the checkout process is completed or can be embedded into the checkout process. Currently, we are only supporting addresses in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, UK and US. Address Validator only processes orders in supported countries that have not yet been fulfilled. Regardless of whether you use Shopify or Shopify Plus, this app does not change any liquid templates. The user interface in admin section is clean, crispy and very easy to navigate. Initially they did not cover our Country (NZ), I emailed and asked if they had plans and they immediately responded back advising they will be, but in a month or two.
Add Google address autocomplete to reduce checkout times! Address validation can be embedded into the checkout flow or into the order status page. Address Validator works by prompting the customer during or after the checkout flow. In general this app adds another layer or level to security at checkout. This suited us, as we were a couple months out from launching our store. They were very open to feedback and took on board some suggestions, offering up their test site to check if some of their new features met our needs.
The method described here uses Google Maps’ Geocoding API.
The free version of this only allows 2500 lookups per day, I easily ran into this limit during development.
This is different from the credit card Address Verification System (AVS), which is the method used by credit card processors to authenticate ownership of a credit card by verifying that the account on the credit card matches the billing address on file.
You will need a developer API key, but you can get that for free.
If you live at a valid street address and find that it doesn't validate properly, you must contact your local United States Post Office and have the address validated and added to their system.
The following methods are used to achieve the most accurate address possible: Because a misspelling usually results in an undeliverable address, commonly misspelled words are corrected. Due to the large number of possible misspellings, not all of them can be accurately detected and corrected.
Customers often misspell shipping addresses and this leads to failed deliveries and ultimately, upset customers.
Inaccurate shipping addresses may result in returned shipments and costly redelivery fees.
